Copies was a collaborative print project facilitated in conjunction with Crawlspace Gallery and Artist Collective. Studio members were given the opportunity to work with myself to create an edition of prints utilising both traditional and experimental printmaking methodologies.
Unique compositions were created that strove to complement the artists regular studio practice in form as well as process of making.
The work was exhibited at the gallery July 10th – 13th 2026.
Funds raised went towards gallery programming and operations.

I sit on my kukwa7’s porch in summertime with a cup of Red Rose tea.
The hummingbirds visit in quick succession, lining up for something sweet.
The pine, sage, juniper, and cedar is fragrant across our territory.
My dad and I stop for bepsi slushies and cheap indian gas station cigarettes on the way to the cedar spot.
He tells me how to harvest boughs without damaging the tree.
How to take without causing harm.
We work bough after bough free.
For ourselves. For our relatives.
Simultaneously thinking about our ancestors and those yet to be born.
I commodify this experience for you. The viewer. The visitor who never leaves.
Take a piece with you.
After all, this land is your land too.

Artist Bio
Nishma Gopaul is a multi-disciplinary artist, currently residing in Calgary AB, creating works in the mediums of painting, textile surface design, sculpture, and installation. Her practice employs action painting and innovative mark-making to explore the tension between control and surrender.
Gopaul holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting (2025) from Alberta University of the Arts (Calgary, AB) and has exhibited in both solo and group exhibitions across Southern Alberta and in Toronto, ON.

The Poly and Esther Gallery is a student run gallery at Alberta University of the Arts focused on showing textile based work from amongst the student population.
In 2024, as director of the gallery, I developed a project to secure funding for artists shown in the space.
Designs were created from works shown during the previous years programming and limited edition silkscreen prints were made. The proceeds from the sale of these prints were used to pay artists in the 2024-2025 academic year.
Special thanks to Jay Stover, Jess Broz, Patrician Todenescu, and Susan Mitchell for allowing their works to be reproduced, and for supporting gallery longevity.
